Christmas ornament crafts are the perfect activity for children; whether it is for a school class craft or something fun to do for kids and parents, this easy ornament craft requires a minimum of supplies and no special skills.
Christmas Ornament Supply List:
Large puzzle pieces
2 wiggle craft eyes per reindeer
Black paint for options
Christmas Ornament Directions:
1. Start with 3 large puzzle pieces. You will need one flat-edged piece for the “head” and two pieces that have two “outie” pieces opposite each other and two “innie” spots opposite each other to serve as the “antlers”. Paint all three pieces brown and let them dry.
2. Once dry, glue the two antler pieces on each side of the top outcroppings of the flat edge piece, as shown, with the flat side being at the bottom. Glue the wiggle craft eyes onto the head piece. Use the red paint to put on the nose. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly before handling further.
3. Once all the paint and glue are fully dried, you can take a length of ribbon to tie around one of the antlers. Make a bow with the ribbon on the antler and you have a place on the back where the ribbon is to place an ornament hook or you can “set” the reindeer in the tree.
This craft is quick and easy and suitable for children of most ages. Smaller children may need a bit of help with painting, but you can use a paint option that cleans up easier for smaller children. Variations and changes can be made to accommodate the supplies you may have on hand or for personal preference. You could choose to use paint pens versus paint or you may choose to use fancier ribbon for adorning the antlers. You could even choose to use small pom-poms for the nose instead of painting them.
Where The Reindeer Names Originated From
The red nosed reindeer became well known from the story Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer by Robert L. May who created it in 1939 for his employer, the Montgomery Ward department store. Our craft was modeled after this reindeer. You can create Santa’s whole team of reindeer by crafting eight more reindeer with black noses instead of red. These reindeer were popularized by the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Those eight reindeer are named Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen.
