Dear Heaven Bound,
So, they say you’re going to die soon. That’s great! I’ve never done that myself, but I am planning to sometime. Hey, is there anything I can do to help? I know you don’t have to pack exactly, but are you ready to go?
I know that when you found God’s invitation to come live with Him you opened it, saw that you were welcome if you went along with Jesus, and then sent an RSVP:
” Dear God; Yes, I will be glad to come to your place, washed and dressed in the white outfit you provided, and in the company of your Son. I am looking forward to the banquet you mentioned and will be preparing excitedly for that day. Please call me at the appointed time.”
This must be your time. The time God Himself has been looking forward to for quite a while. I think He can hardly wait, but He always does whatever is necessary to help us be fully prepared in appearance, in behavior, and in character for such an important occasion as coming into His presence.
God has been preparing you all of your life hasn’t He? Didn’t you have some really difficult parents? Sure, He uses that, if we react properly. And if you had a wonderful upbringing, He would have used that too if you had responded faithfully. Sometimes we resist the good, but even with some rebelling, followed by the appropriate repentance, we can be all the more suited for a heavenly life.
Remember when you had that accident? And that terrible illness? So much agony, but you came to appreciate both the extreme value of life, and just how meaningless our frail bodies are. Such peace and joy grew in your heart through those times! You were “packing” for this trip even then.
And then you were married. Talk about preparation! I am sure that God used that relationship to challenge your nature. The more you chose to follow God’s example in your marriage, the more you learned of the glory of loving and being loved; and isn’t that pretty much what we’ll be doing in Heaven for the next forever and a half?
I know you were paying attention when you had those kids, so you certainly found out even more about the essence of God’s undying patience, His sacrificial nature, His soft heart, and the loving, responsible side of His discipline.
I would say you are ready and now, perhaps soon, you’ll be even closer to God! I guess I’m not as ready as you are, so I’ll still be here waiting for my call. I have a lot to learn but I would just like to remind you that He knows what He’s doing, and He will take care of everyone here that you care about. It won’t be long before you will all be together again, over there!
Have a Great Time!
Your brother in Christ., Mike
