Branson, Missouri has a hidden gem as far as top of the line museums go. The Titanic Branson attraction has been open since 2006 and is a two-story 1/3 size replica of the outside of the ship. And yes, many of the reproductions look exactly like James Cameron’s movie “Titanic” that swept the Academy Award nominations in 1997. The museum even got a royal send off when Regis Philbin christened the museum and then an exhibit of movie memorabilia came into Titanic Branson.
One of the most unique museums in the world, there are also authentic artifacts of the people who survived the sinking. When you first enter the ship you are given a ticket with a name on it. As you stroll through several rooms on the ship you see the inner workings of the ship including the telegraph room, main staircase, and the bridge.
At the end of your journey through the ship you find the name on your ticket to see if you are a survivor or if you went down with the ship in icy waters. It is a stark reminder of the human toll that the voyage took.
The tour of the exhibit includes over 20 rooms replicated as authentic as possible, the cornerstone of which is the grand staircase that looks exactly as the movie set. Rare photographs of the interior and exterior of the original ship and an 18-foot long model are also on display.
One unique thing about the exhibit is that you get to touch an “iceberg” to feel exactly how cold the waters were when the ship sank. It’s yet another chilling reminder of what happened in early morning hours of April 15, 1912.
Not only are the rooms in the museum a testament to human achievement but also of movie making magic. Comparing photos of the museum to that of the movie and it looks like you’re there on the ship itself just as James Cameron’s epic was designed to do.
