Before there was Tivo and DVR machines, you were forced to watch commercials while recording. I remember sitting on the sofa and wanting to buy the latest toy after watching my favorite VHS cassette. I sometimes feel the same way when I go down memory lane and sort out my vast array of old video cassettes. (Some people like me still own these.)
These are the top five countdown of commercials that make me want go out and buy something:
5. Hawaiian Punch
A little rap song and the red headed little guy with his blue and white striped shirt goes party wild. He tells you to remember that Hawaiian Punch comes in packets. Just poke it with a straw. Remember that Hawaiian Punch’s main competition was Capri Sun which came in those messy packets. I.
4. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Will Raphael be destroyed by the retro-ooze? It’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with a retro-catapult confronting radioactive ooze. Accessories and action figures not included. Who cares? There is ooze and more ooze. Now, this was a messy little toy by Playmate which accompanies the movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of Ooze.
3. Got to be cool eating Pop Tarts
“So cool, they are hot! ” Even teenagers and Will Smith (think Fresh Prince of Belair) types eat it in the morning. And if your girlfriend looks like a modern Debbie Gibson. That’s cool! You’re cool too because you are a guy and dress in pink too.
2. Skippy Scribbles
It’s Skippy, a scary little bear that draws and tells you stories. He speaks, writes and draws. I mean he is better than your little sister and has these cool robotic arms. It was made my the Wonderama Toy Company of New Jersey. You could also buy the girl bear named Susie.
1. Lego Maniac
“I know a boy, his name is Zack. He loves to fit, he loves to stack, Yes construction is his knack, he’s Zach the Lego Maniac. He builds in windows, he’s off the wall, he builds’em big, he builds ’em small. In Lego-Land, he’ll rock and roll. He’s Lego wild, out of control! It’s Zack, Zack, he’s a Lego Maniac! He’s Zack, Zack, he’s a Lego Maniac!”
Yes, the kid was obsessed with legos. So, whatever happened to him. The original Zack is Chris Perguidi A recent article in Powet.TV, explained that Zack was also played by other child actors including Jeff Jones and Josh Disny from 1988 til 1995.
Perguidi is the star of Lizard Zone, the Chris and Erica Show, found here on YouTube.
But College Humor wrote a wild article of what really happened to Zack, the fictional character from the commercials, he died in a mental institution of Lego Mania.
