It is the Holiday season again and there are many things on youngster’s minds at this time of the year. With Halloween just passed and Christmas in the near future, one big thing on little one’s minds is candy. There are all kinds of candy out there to choose from but what should one get their kids. Nostalgic candy or candy you loved as a kid is a great idea. I have reminisced and come up with a list of my favorite nostalgic candy that I would still get my children.
One of my favorite, if not my favorite nostalgic candy is the Atomic Fireball. I remember opening up the package as I was younger and putting that big round cinnamon smelling ball into my mouth letting it set on my tongue. Eating the Atomic Fireball was always some kind of contest. If eaten with others, it was to see who could keep it in their mouth the longest. If eaten alone, I was either timing how long I could hold in my mouth with the clock or counting it off in my head. I would still get this candy for my children so they can join the great contest and to see how they do against me. Plus it is just funny watching people who willingly put themselves through pain.
While the Atomic Fireball tests you against heat, Warheads test you against sourness. I liked this candy for much of the same reasons that I liked the former but this is a sour candy instead of a hot candy. The pucker faces are hilarious to watch. I would still get this for my children because their pucker faces are hilarious as well.
Root Beer Barrels
I loved this candy when I was a kid because I loved root beer. There is no other candy like the root beer barrel. I liked it for its taste and its shaped. The barrel shape is just cool and makes it easier to pinpoint it out of a bag of candy because it’s not just a circle like most hard candies. I would still get this for my children to share the root beer goodness that it holds, especially if they like root beer.
Caramel Apple Pops
I am putting this on my list of nostalgic candy even though it is not very old, because I have had a hard time finding them this year. Actually, I did not find them locally this year. These are green sour apple suckers that are covered in a layer of caramel. It is just an awesome combination and I miss it. I would still get these for my children because there are some things that everyone should try.
My last favorite nostalgic candy is Bottle Caps. I liked these because of a couple of reasons; the mystery of not quite knowing what kind you will get, the shape, and the soda flavors. I liked Bottle Caps better than Sweetarts and Smarties because of the flavors and textures. I would still buy Bottle Caps for my children because they are yummy and easy to share.
