Today I took my three-months old to The Greek Kitchen to meet up with a friend. Reluctant to bring a young baby to Bellevue Square, which is an upscale mall in an Eastside suburb of Seattle, I decided to brave it anyway.
Surprisingly, Bellevue Square was extremely friendly to ladies with babies, and so was The Greek Kitchen. Unfortunately, that was the only positive thing about The Greek Kitchen.
Right next to Nordstrom on the first floor entrance, The Greek Kitchen is a small establishment with a fast food feel. You order at the counter, they make it in front of you and you pay at the end of the line.
Most people who showed up during lunch time were shoppers at the mall: an older couple from out of town, sisters on a shopping spree, and sales people from Nordstrom…A pretty ordinary crowd. Then there was my little one and I, all disheveled with a half open diaper bag, calming a crying baby with weird sounds.
Just when I thought that the servers at The Greek Kitchen would be annoyed, they were kind. I asked for hot water for the bottle and they boiled some especially for me. One of them even walked outside of the counter to bring me food and water, because I was having trouble carrying everything. Twenty minutes later, I needed more hot water, and he went out of his way again to help me out, even though there was a line of customers waiting.
Whoever the servers were, I would really like to thank them for being so considerate to a nervous new mother.
My gyro, however, was drowning in paprika. The lamb slices were a little dry and the pita had burnt edges. My friend ordered lentil soup but she barely scooped up any lentils. I guess she’ll get her protein some other way?
Sorry! The food at The Greek Kitchen wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either! If I wanted to pay eight dollars for lunch, I expected tastier food.
Would I go back again? Absolutely! To me, service counts big time at any restaurant! To conclude, although I wasn’t impressed with my actual lunch, the people at The Greek Kitchen were so nice and helpful; they make me want to go back anytime!
