There are lots of Retro consoles for sale. Most of the retro consoles are for the NES, SNES, and Sega systems. However there are a few retro systems that are from the second generation home console featuring games from the Atari 2600 system. Unlike many of the retro systems that are not made for the original companies or even licensed by them Atari has made a few licensed system. The Atari Flashback Game System is one of these systems. Is the Atari Flashback Game System worth getting?
The Atari Flashback Game System has controllers that are a bit different then the original Atari. You can use the old controllers if you want. This would allow you to play certain games that need peripherals like pong to play however this system comes with a preset games which do not require this kind of joystick. You could also use Sega controllers if you do not have Atari controllers.
The Atari Flashback Game System comes with 20 games. However the the Atari Flashback Game System does not allow for you to play Atari cartridges. This would be a problem but this is not the only problem with the system. Even though the Atari Flashback Game System was made by Atari it does not use the same system as the original Atari. The emulation is surprisingly poor. You would expect that the emulation would be good on this system but sadly it is not.
There are some good things about the system though. The Atari Flashback Game System is easy to set up. The Atari Flashback Game System is also pretty cheap. You can get the Atari Flashback Game System for about $10-15. The Atari Flashback Game System is much like the single plug and play games but it allows for two players so it is a better deal then the plug and play games you find at the toy section of most stores.
The Atari Flashback Game System has one final problem. The games are almost unplayable anymore. Even if your first system was an Atari 2600 like myself you will realize how low simple and bad the games are and wont play them to long. The nostalgia wears off really fast.
I was expecting the Atari Flashback Game System to be like the other retro systems and play old Atari 2600 cartridges but that is not what you get. The machine is more like a glorified plug and play system. If you are planning on getting a plug and play system this is great because you can play with two players. The price is also good for a plug and play system. I would recommend the system to anyone that wants to play a few Atari games.
