As I mentioned in another review, I decided to make frozen lasagna for dinner Saturday night. While at the store, I remembered my oldest daughter doesn’t really like lasagna and realized that, even if she did, it wasn’t going to be done until both her and her sister were getting ready for bed so I decided to search for something different for the kids.
I ultimately decided to just make them some chicken nuggets but wanted something to go with them and headed toward the freezer section to get some French fries. While there, I noticed the store had Alexia Olive Oil and Sea Salt Oven Fries on sale. I wasn’t sure if the kids would like them or not but decided to give them a try.
The thing that attracted me to these fries is they were something different from what we normally make the kids, both in shape and (at least I thought at the time) taste. I was a bit afraid my daughters wouldn’t like them because they had a bit of potato skin on them. But, I remembered they both eat potato wedges and never complained about the skin on those.
Since I was using the oven anyway, I decided to just bake them at the same time as the lasagna and garlic bread. Even though I was cooking them at a lower temperature than what was on the bag, the fries did get done faster than indicated in the instructions and came out just the way we like them; crisp without being hard.
I gave these to my kids half expecting them to take a bite and not like them at all. However, I couldn’t help but notice both ate everything on their plates and my oldest even asked for seconds. Out of curiosity and because I was starting to get hungry, I decided to give them a try too. And, I was pleasantly surprised by them.
As I said before, I was expecting these to have a flavor that was different from the other fries we have purchased. It turns out that really wasn’t the case. But, at the same time, that’s actually a good thing since that’s probably why my kids ate them. The only exception to this would be the fries weren’t as salty as other fries and had just enough to give them flavor. I know I enjoyed them enough where I had to use quite a bit of self control to keep from eating more than a couple before dinner.
If you are looking for fries that are easy to make and offer something in terms of quality, I would recommend this brand.
