I personally own the dramatic moisturizing gel from Clinique, but received a sample of the moisturizing lotion with my purchase. I wanted to try it out, so here are my thoughts on it.
The moisturizing gel appears translucent. The lotion is opaque. That is probably due to the formula’s consistency and oil content. The lotion is a quite a bit thicker than the gel. Because the lotion is meant for those with normal or dry skin, rather than those with oily skin, it has more oil content. When I rub it into my face, I can feel it on my face, like other lotions.
Although I do not have very oily skin, I have never preferred oily moisturizers. They have always bothered me. However, though I can definitely tell that there is oil in the lotion, it does not seem to be really oily. It feels nice on the skin. Definitely a little less smooth or liquid-like than the gel, but I still think that it feels very smooth and nice on the skin.
Especially for those who have drier skin (now that it is getting into colder weather), the moisturizing lotion will really come in handy to help prevent drying skin. It really does lock in moisture well, and feels comfortable on the face.
For my personal preferences, I will continue to use the moisturizing gel instead of the lotion, but I do really think the moisturizing lotion is a great product. Both moisturizers are excellent products from Clinique, and probably my favorite in the Clinique 3-step system. If you are trying to decide between gel and lotion, you should consider your skin type (whether it is normal, dry, or oily), and what your preferences in regards to the consistency of lotion is.
In the end, I will probably switch between the two, depending on the needs of my skin and preference. Both are great products, and I really recommend both of them.
