I had to put gas in my car this morning before work and decided to go inside the convenience store to buy a can of Mountain Dew (I’ve been trying to cut back but didn’t get a lot of sleep last night and needed a boost). Unfortunately, they happened to be out. So, I ended up buying something different; a can of Faygo Moon Mist.
I was interested in the Faygo Moon Mist for a couple reasons. First, it looked like it would be very similar to Mountain Dew (the can looked about the same) and it was actually less than the other cans of soda I could have chosen (when I saw it, I had a can of Pepsi in my hand).
Of course, when I bought it, I did have some doubts about it. I have tried several cheaper Mountain Dew rip-offs and they usually aren’t very good; they might be drinkable but there is an obvious difference. And, when I picked up this brand, I kind of figured it would be the same.
However, it turns out the Faygo Moon Mist wasn’t too bad.
Usually, when I buy a generic Mountain Dew like drink, I have to drink a can or two to get used to the taste. This is because most cheap brands seem to have a sharper citrus taste to them. Mountain Dew, in comparison, has the citrus taste but it is milder (either that, or I’m just really used to it).
I didn’t have that problem with the Faygo Moon Mist. There was a difference compared to the Mountain Dew (I think it actually tastes a bit more like Mountain Dew’s competitor Mellow Yellow). But, it wasn’t a huge difference and not something that would require getting used to.
Also, unlike many other citrus sodas, this one seems to agree with me as well as the Mountain Dew. Most other brands, for example, seem to leave me with heartburn. I did not have that problem with the Faygo Moon Mist.If I had to choose between the Faygo Moon Mist and my regular Mountain Dew, I think I would still choose the Mountain Dew; even if it were more expensive (which I’m guessing it would be). But, if I weren’t able to buy my Mountain Dew again or if I had to watch what I was spending, I wouldn’t mind buying the Faygo Moon Mist as a substitute.
