My daughter had an eye appointment at our Walmart vision center the other day. So, while her and my wife did that, I decided to pick up some things we needed for the house.
Well, the appointment took longer than I expected it to and, as a result of that, I found myself wandering into the grocery section of the store; just to see what they might have available. One of the things I came across in the freezer section was a box of meatball marinara subs from the brand Great Value.
When I first saw these, I wasn’t going to buy them. We already knew what we were doing for dinner and I didn’t like the price tag on them (nearly $4). But, after some thought, I realized I didn’t know what I was having for lunch the next day and realized the price wasn’t too bad considering there were two sandwiches inside. So, ultimately, I ended up purchasing them.
I should have left them in the freezer.
I got home for lunch and took one of the subs out of the box. When I did this, I liked two things about them. First, they were individually wrapped. Second, I didn’t need to remove the sub from the wrapper; just open one end and cook it in the microwave.
When I did this, I originally intended to just put the sub in by itself. But, realizing the plastic might be a bit hot when it was done, I decided to put it on a paper plate instead. I’m glad I did this because, as it was cooking, the sub fell apart! One of the meatballs rolled right off the bun and the cheese and marinara sauce leaked everywhere. Had I put it in my microwave without having the plate on it, I probably would have spent my lunch hour trying to clean it up.
Oh, I should also mention that, when I picked up the sandwich, the bun broke in half so I ended up eating the meatballs with a fork instead.
Taste wise, the sandwich wasn’t too bad. But, it also didn’t live up to expectations. I’ve had plenty of other Great Value products in the past and I’m usually happy with the quality. This one just tasted cheaply made and there wasn’t anything that made it stand out from the other bargain sandwiches that are out there (for less money).Needless to say, I do feel purchasing this product was a mistake I won’t make again.
