My wife and I desperately needed to do some grocery shopping and, figuring our money would go a bit further than at any of the other stores in town; we ended up going to our local Aldi this past weekend.
We primarily were after staple items like pasta and canned vegetables (we even ended up with a can of beets even though nobody in our house likes them). However, when we got to the freezer section of the store, I started looking for things that would make a quick meal; especially for days when I was home for lunch and there weren’t any leftovers in the fridge. That’s why I ended up buying a Mama Cozzi Classic Pepperoni Pizza.
When I first saw this product, it reminded me a lot of the Totino’s Party Pizzas I usually will buy. In fact, everything about the pizza, with the exception of the box, looked very similar. The fact it was only 99 cents (the Totino’s brand usually runs about $1.50 here) definitely made it worth trying.
I had planned on saving this product for later in the week. But, my wife and youngest daughter were out shopping again (we went grocery shopping but forgot to get a snack for my oldest daughter’s school Halloween party)when I was home for lunch today and I figured, since the leftover spaghetti wasn’t interesting me, I would give this pizza a try.
Overall, I would have to say it wasn’t half bad.
Just to be clear, this wasn’t the best pizza I have ever eaten. In fact, I don’t think it was even quite as good as the Totino’s pizzas. However, I have purchased quite a few other pizzas for around the same price and, compared to those other 99 cent pizzas, this one was actually much, much better.
Size wise, it was very filling. I was able to eat one of these at lunch and it stayed with me until dinner time. And, as far as taste goes, while not great, it was definitely edible and there was nothing that couldn’t be covered up simply by adding a bit of garlic powder and parmesan cheese to it.
Again, this isn’t a pizza that I would find myself eating on a regular basis and, if I had a choice between this and Totino’s, I would say the more expensive brand is a bit better. But, if you are looking for a filling meal and are on a tight budget, this is a product I would recommend trying.
