My wife did some grocery shopping last week and picked up a variety of foods for meals ranging from breakfast through dinner (and even some snacks for in between). When she said she picked up breakfast items, I figured she just meant the usual things like cereal and maybe a box of waffles. But, she showed me something a little different; Michelina’s Sweet Selections Apple Pie Mega Snackers.
OK, to be fair, this probably isn’t really a breakfast food. But, we treated it as such and it wouldn’t be the first (or last) time we have had something like this in the early morning to change things up a bit. And, when Friday got here last week (Black Friday) and we were up bright and early to do some shopping, we decided to make these.
I have had other Michelina’s Snackers in the past; mainly their actual breakfast snackers. And, to be honest, I wasn’t overly impressed with those and really wasn’t expecting to enjoy these all that much either. But, the Apple Pie Mega Snackers ended up surprising me.
First, I have had a lot of products that are made in the microwave and these are one of the easiest. All I had to do was take them out of the box and pop them in the microwave for a matter of seconds and they were done. Unlike many other pastries, the apple filling did not leak out of the snackers so I could eat them simply by picking them up and not have to worry about a mess. This was a big plus considering I was eating while getting ready to head out the door.
As far as taste goes, these weren’t bad. They were a bit sweeter than I was expecting but it wasn’t anything that wasn’t enjoyable. Basically, it was like eating a piece of fresh baked apple pie; only in bite sized form.
My biggest concern about this product was the size. Even though they were described as “mega” snackers, they really weren’t overly large. And, as a result, I had doubts about them as a satisfying breakfast. However, they proved to be much more filling than expected and the two in the box were more than enough to last us until lunch (well, actually, since we were up so early, it was brunch).
If you are looking for something different for breakfast or something sweet to eat as a snack, I would recommend this product.
