I found the new Blistex Five Star Lip Protection lip protectant/sunscreen this fall when I was looking for a new chap stick product. The cool, windy fall days had made my lips chapped and cracked. With winter coming soon, I knew I needed a good chap stick to correct the damage already done to my lips and then protect them. Since Blistex Five Star Lip Protection claims to be “the Ultimate Daily Protection for Lips,” I bought it for $1.62 at Wal-Mart, hoping it would work as well as claimed.
The first time I applied Blistex Five Star Lip Protection, my lips felt soothed. After using the product for several weeks, I am happy to report that my lips have healed. There are five ingredients, the “stars,” in Blistex Five Star Lip Protection that makes it work to protect lips from dryness, heat, cold, sun, and wind.
The first star ingredient is glycerin which protects lips from dryness. The moisturizing properties of glycerin provides lubrication, improving and maintaining smoothness of the lips.
The second star ingredient is wheat germ oil which rehydrates heat-stressed lips. Wheat germ oil is an unrefined oil from the germ of the wheat kernel. It has Vitamins A, D, and E; and is rich in protein and lecithin.
Candelilla helps form a wind barrier on your lips. It is a wax derived from the leaves of the Candelilla shrub, of northern Mexico and southwestern United States, that is insoluble in water.
Calendula oil soothes cold chapped lips. Calendula is commonly known as the marigold flower. It is used externally to treat dry and damaged skin, wounds, inflammations, even diaper rash.
UVA/UVB sun protection is provided by SPF 30. A combination of four active ingredients make the sunscreen very effective. This UVA/UVB sun protection makes Blistex Five Star Lip Protection a good year-round lip protection product.
Compared to the Nivea A Kiss of Moisture Hydrating Lip Care I had been using, my new Blistex Five Star Lip Protection works much better. Nivea A Kiss of Moisture Hydrating Lip Care worked well with mild weather, but once the cool days of fall came, my lips became chapped and sore. It has only two ingredients to keep moisture in the lips with nothing to heal any existing lip damage. The Nivea A Kiss of Moisture only has an SPF4 compared to the Blistex Five Star Lip Protection that has an SPF30. This is very important to me because I like to be outdoors.
I would highly recommend the Blistex Five Star Lip Protection for anyone who is looking for a year-round chap stick that will protect lips from nature’s harshest weather. It lives up to its claim as “the Ultimate Daily Protection for Lips!”
