I recently attended “Godspell” at the Sunnyvale Theater on 550 E. Remington Drive presented by Sunnyvale Community Players (http://sunnyvaleplayers.org/). The music and lyrics are by Stephen Schwartz, and it’s directed by Walter Mayes. The musical is based on the gospel of St. Matthew as it applies to modern life. It also depicts the life of Jesus, wonderfully played by Justin Buchs, which takes the audience through his baptism, crucifixion, resurrection, and second coming.
I greatly enjoyed the numbers “Day By Day”, “All for the Best”, and “Light of the World” which echo the theme that God = Love, as interpreted by Walter Mays, who explains his own religious upbringings in the Director’s Note. I highly recommend this for a night of entertainment for the whole family. Tickets are $23.50 general admission and $20.50 for students and seniors. The show currently runs through Nov. 21, so come out and be inspired!
