Our family is fond of authentic Indian food delicacies and that is why I am always on the lookout for some new restaurants that serve such food delicacies. Recently, we were able to visit one such restaurant in Dallas area during our visit to Dallas, Texas to our daughter’s home. This restaurant was Udipi Cafe and is situated at 35 Richardson Heights Village, Richardson, TX-75080. Our family enjoyed our visit to this Indian restaurant and that is why I have written this article so that all my AC friends and readers may also get a chance to taste great Indian food delicacies.
We had visited this restaurant on Sunday for the vegetarian buffet lunch. The restaurant was almost full and we couldn’t get the table without some difficulty. The restaurant is quiet spacious having total capacity of around 120 persons. The restaurant serves Indian vegetarian buffet lunch during lunch hours and serves most of the Indian food delicacies during evening dinner on a la carte basis. The buffet lunch started with the most tasty Rasam and Vegetable Sambhar followed by Masala Dosas, Idlies, Vada, and Vegetable Upma. These delicious South Indian items were served with four types of chutneys and salads. In addition to these, hot puries were also served with four vegetables, Masala Dal, Curd Rice, Masala Pulao, Plain Rice, and very tasty spicy pickles. Three dessert items were also served in this lavish buffet. The desserts like Gulab Jamuns, Rice Pudding, and special Carrot Halwa were served on the day of our visit. The tasty vegetable Samosas with green chutney were also served in this most luxurious buffet lunch. The hot Masala Dosas were served at the individual tables. We really enjoyed this buffet lunch as all the items were really very tasty and having original Indian taste. However, service standards of the restaurant were not up to the mark and some of the items like Curd Rice were not replenished on the buffet table, even after many verbal reminders. The cost of this lavish buffet is $8.99 per person during weekend and $7.99 during weekdays.
If you prefer to visit this restaurant for dinner in the evening, the appetizers like Udipi Idly, Onion Pakoda, Dahi Vada, Potato Bonda, Vegetable Cutlets, Rasa Vada are available at the rates of around $3 per plate. The main course items like all types of Dosas, Uthappams, Punjabi vegetables and Curries are served at the rates of around $7 per plate. The traditional Indian deserts in around four varieties are also served at the rates of around $3 per plate. The restaurant is very nicely decorated with artistic wooden light fixtures and paintings. The sweet Indian musical melodies were continuously played on speakers in the restaurant. This Restaurant remains open from 11 am to 10 pm during the week days and from 11:30 am to 10 pm during the weekends. The Lunch Buffet is served from 11 am to 3 pm everyday. The ample parking space is available outside the restaurant for the visitors. The restroom facilities inside the restaurant were also neat and clean.
We really enjoyed our visit to this Indian Restaurant, except for few service problems experienced by us as briefed above. Barring only this minor negative aspect, the restaurant is worth visiting to enjoy the tasty vegetarian South Indian food delicacies. If you are fond of Indian vegetarian food items and are staying in Dallas Fort Worth area, you must plan a visit to this restaurant.
