As I said in another review, I found some turkey legs at the grocery store last night and decided to make them for dinner. Since it was something different for us, I decided to be as different as possible when it came to side dishes. So, rather than using the same tired old vegetables we always use (we mostly have peas and corn in our pantry since they are the only ones my kids will eat without a fight), I made the decision to purchase a can of mixed vegetables. And, since they were on sale for quite a bit less than the other guys, I bought a can from the Our Family Brand.
I have purchased quite a few items from the Our Family label before and have been happy with the majority of them. This particular product, however, is one that I was not impressed with.
One of the first things I noticed about this particular can of mixed vegetables is it was almost all water inside the can. I dumped it out into a dish so I could microwave it and, for a split second at least, thought I accidentally purchased some sort of vegetable soup. If I had taken the time to drain the can first (something I normally do but decided not to do last night), I think I would have had less than half a can’s worth. In fact, if it had been more than my wife and I eating them, there definitely would not have been enough for us. Even with just two of us, we had to ration them out carefully just to make sure we each had enough for one serving.
Another thing that I was not happy with when it came to this particular product was the variety of vegetables. There was a mix of things like celery, carrots, potatoes, corn and I think lima beans. But, it wasn’t an equal mix. The majority of what we had in the can was carrots and potatoes with only a little bit of the other vegetables sprinkled in.
As I said before, I have found high quality products from this brand before at a very reasonable price. But, when it came to the mixed vegetables, even on sale, they weren’t worth the money I spent on them. If you are looking for a can of mixed vegetables to go with your dinner, I would not recommend this brand.
