Wednesday was my 35th birthday. And, since my wife had to work (I used one of my vacation days) and my daughter was in school all day, I decided to agree to let my mom make my birthday dinner and told her whatever she wanted to make would be fine.
She decided to make chicken for dinner (they apparently had a lot of it in their freezer) and, to go with it, she decided to make a box of Our Family Stuffing Mix.
As I have said in the past, I’m a big fan of stuffing. But, we have had quite a few bargain brands similar to the Our Family label that just weren’t as good as the more expensive guys. And, as a result of that, I was a bit skeptical about how this particular stuffing would turn out. I figured, if it was like most other bargain brands, it would be dry and would be extremely salty.
Well, after trying it at dinner, I am pleased to say that was not the case with this brand.
First of all, the stuffing was one of the moistest instant brands we have ever tried. My mom decided to make this in the microwave. Under most circumstances, that cooking method is not the best choice and the overall quality suffers.
However, when I tried this for the first time, I honestly thought she made it on the stove. The stuffing was light and fluffy and didn’t get dried out like most other brands (even most expensive brands) do when cooked that way.
Unlike most bargain brands, this stuffing also tasted like stuffing. There were plenty of seasonings on it but it wasn’t overly salty like many others we have tried. I definitely appreciated this considering I wasn’t a huge fan of the chicken (there was no meat on it).
Another thing that really impressed me about this brand was the quantity. My parents only bought one box of this and I honestly did not think that would be enough for 6 people. But, even though there weren’t any leftovers, there was enough stuffing to go around. I even managed to have seconds. In other words, they definitely got their money’s worth.
If you are looking for a stuffing mix to go with dinner that doesn’t cost too much, can feed more than a couple people and tastes as good as the more expensive brands, I would recommend this one.
