I shave 6 times a week (sometimes more) and, as a result, tend to wear out my razor blades pretty quickly. In fact, even though I recently switched razors, after only about two weeks, the two blades that came with it were getting dull and I had to run to the store to buy some replacements.
When I got to the store, I intended on simply buying a pack of refills rather than trying a different brand. However, the refills were $10 and I happened to notice another razor, the Wilkinson Sword Turbo 3, for just $5. When I saw the refill blades for that razor were also only $5, I decided it was worth trying.
If it weren’t for the significant savings, I probably would not have even considered this razor. As I mentioned in other reviews, I prefer razors that have five blades in them and it took some convincing for me to recently try one that had just four. The fact this one had just three, in my opinion, meant it was a pretty big step down.
I also was concerned about the overall quality. I have tried cheaper brands before and have found very few that were as good as the more expensive, better known, razors. But, as I said before, it was a significant price difference so I decided to try it.
I will say there were a couple things I didn’t like about this brand from the start. First, the razor itself seemed heavy and a bit bulky. The handle was also shaped in a way that made it a bit harder to hold than the other guys.
The razor is also a bit hard to get clean when using it; something that I do feel will reduce the number of shaves I can get off of one blade.
However, as far as the shaving goes, the razor did exceed my expectations. Despite having fewer blades, the Wilkinson Sword Turbo 3 did give me a close shave. And, unlike a lot of cheaper brands, it didn’t pinch or pull (though I did end up cutting my chin a couple times). While the handle did make it a little harder to hold than other brands, it wasn’t a significant difference and I got used to it in a reasonable amount of time.
As I said before, I do have some doubts about getting as many shaves per blade with this brand when compared to others. But, the cheaper price more than makes up for that. At half the price of the other guys, this is a good alternative if you are looking for a decent razor and don’t want to spend a lot of money.
