People use Facebook to stay in touch with friends and family. I know I do. But, sometimes friends or family decide they’ll spend a whole bunch of time on the site and play all the games and use all the silly applications available. I’m not one to say that these applications are a bad thing, but when you get up in the morning and find you have over 500 topics on your news feed and maybe a quarter of them are legitimate.
If you have this problem too, maybe you’ve been using Facebook for a while, like I have. In a previous build of the site it was very difficult to turn off these announcements. At one point, I’d considered ignoring all of my brother’s updates to avoid his farm, gang, and horoscope. With the new version of Facebook, however, it is much easier to rid yourself of the unnecessary updates.
Now, if you see that Jane Soandso needs help with her farm or wants you to send her a gift egg simply mouse over the area that is her post. When you do, a little “x” will appear in the upper right hand corner of the update space. Click the “x.” When you do the update area will go “dim” and a few buttons with options will come up. Likely they will be “Block Jane Soandso,” “Block Farmville,” or “Cancel.” Select “Block Farmville” and not only will it block Farmville updates from Jane, but it will also block Farmville updates from anyone else on your friends list.
So, now you don’t have to consider removing your bestie from your friends list because they have a penchant for online browser games. Happy Facebooking!
