If you like roller coasters, imagine for a minute you could control your own speed on your ride. You might be in the ride by yourself. Someone may be with you. Now imagine you are going down a mountain and enjoying the majestic scenery of Colorado mountains on your coaster adventure, along with the typical speeds, bumps, and waves of any roller coaster ride. If you are enjoying such a ride it can only be at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on the Canyon Flyer, the only alpine coaster in the United States.
The scenery on the ride is breathtaking, if you can take the time to enjoy it as you are speeding 3,400 feet down the mountain! When it’s all done, you will come to a gentle stop at the bottom!
If you don’t take the time to enjoy the scenery on the way down, because of the exhilaration of the ride, you will as you go back up slowly. You will be able to enjoy the beauty of the mountain and the nearby wildflowers. The ride can operate any time of the year because of its track system and can make hair pin turns.
The alpine coaster ride isn’t the only thrilling ride at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Imagine yourself in a giant swing 1,300 feet above the Colorado River! It can become a reality on the Giant Canyon Swing. If you have the nerve to open your eyes during your ride, you will find the view that is so beautiful many find it to be breathtaking. You will swing and soar at speeds of up to 50-miles-per-hour. Up to four can ride at the same time.
The Giant Canyon Swing and the Bungee Trampoline are seasonal rides that are not open year round as the coaster is, but many have found both rides to be spectacular. On the trampoline you can soar, jump, and twist through the air. You will first be strapped into the safety harness. You will then start to jump as you would on any trampoline. Because of the bungee cord, you can jump higher and higher. You can even add back flips or somersaults.
The thrill rides at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park are not the only things to see when you visit the park in Glenwood Springs.
You can enjoy the majestic view as you skim the trees and climb the top of Iron Mountain and go to the entrance of Historic Fairy Caves and Glenwood Caverns on a tram ride that has a European gondola design, one of the first such designs in America.
Whether you take a walking, virtual, adventure, or wild tour of the caverns, you will be sure to enjoy the beauty and the one-of-a kind formations.
In the first 4D theater in Colorado, you can enjoy the haunted mine ride, the snow ride over snow covered mountains, or TurtleVision.
There is also a 32 foot climbing wall. There are many other things to enjoy at the park, such as laser tag and a wild west wagon ride.
People who have visited Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park have positive things to say about their experience. Some people who weren’t even roller coaster fans enjoyed the alpine coaster, because, unlike on a traditional roller coaster, riders can control their own speed.
“They are always adding new attractions that can’t be found anywhere else,” TravelGirl513 said on tripadvisor.com. “The alpine coaster and 4D theater are my favorite; I never get tired of them! If you’re in Glenwood Springs, you definitely need to check it out!”
“Be sure to go to the new 4D theatre – they show several different movies and they are really thrilling,”SusieLou said on the same website. “The seats move, you get things puffed at your face, it is so much fun. The Canyon Flyer is not like a roller coaster, of which I am not a big fan, but is better because you can control the speed. The more I rode it the faster I wanted to go, and the faster I did go. Once was not enough.”
