Rubber duckies, a child’s classic bathtub toy. All sweet and innocent the rubber duckies are cheap, plastic floating toys that are generally yellow with an orange beak. How cute! Looking for a unique Halloween decoration or party favor? Take that sweet little rubber duckie and turn him into a monster in no time!
Kids will crack up when they see the unusual Halloween duckies you make just for the party. You can often find the ducks at dollar-theme stores or discount department stores. There are many different things you can do to turn the ducks into a Halloween novelty.
It’s easy to give the duckie an autopsy look by using a fine-tip, black marker. Draw a “Y” on the duck’s chest then make tiny cross lines to represent the stitches. If you want, cut a tiny piece of red felt or foam in the shape of a tongue. Glue the tongue so that it appears to be hanging out of the duck’s mouth.
Use a black magic marker to paint a vest shape on the duck. Don’t give the vest buttons or other embellishments. After the paint is dry use a different color of marker to write “Dead Duck” on the front of the vest. Make him look scarier by gluing a tuft of black, fake fur on top of his head or by using a red marker to give him bloodshot eyes.
Use other novelties, and glue them onto the ducks, to create even more party favors. Glue a large spider onto the duck’s back or a tiny but to his beak. Cut an axe shape from flat foam and glue it to the wing of the duck.
The ducks don’t necessarily have to look creepy and eerie. Use markers to draw a vest on them then write “Happy Halloween” on it. Use tufts of black or orange fake fur on their heads or give them a little fake moustache or beard. It’ll have kids cracking up!
Cut tiny bow tie shapes from Halloween-theme cloth and instantly give the little duckies a holiday look that isn’t frightening. Or, cut a necktie shape and glue it on. Craft stores are full of small things you can use to embellish the ducks such as skull and crossbone stickers, tiny hats or even eye stickers to put over the duck’s original eyes. You can even use things you might already have, like red nail polish, to create blood on the rubber duck.
Halloween is all about spooky, eerie and creepy things. It’s fun to make those kinds of themes out of something that’s normally adorable, like a rubber duckie. They’re unusual and perfect as party favors or decorations around the house.
