When it comes to rules it seems that there are some that are just begging to be broken. These silly rules are about eating, dressing, sleeping, and more. These rules can be annoying and actually a pain in the butt. Some are pointless while other so some sense but yet they are so easily broken.
The rule I break most often is not getting 8 hours of sleep a night. Who in the world has the time to be able to sleep for one-third of a day? I know I certainly don’t. Even though getting 8 hours of sleep is recommended by medical professionals it is not feasible for most people to sleep for that long. Seriously let’s think about this. If you get up at 6 AM in order to get the kids ready and to be to work by 9. Work until between 5 and 6 PM. Go home, make dinner, help with home work, get the kids bathed, put them to bed. Now it is time to wash the dishes, throw in a load of clothes, clean up general messes. Now all of a sudden it is 11 PM. Really. And you still have to shower and get things ready for the morning. Those 8 hours of sleep just do not fit into a 24 hour day.
There are two rules I break on a somewhat regular basis while at the gas pump. The first one would be talking on my cell phone at the gas pump. I figure talking on the phone at the gas pump is safer than me talking and driving. So if I have someone I need to call I will call them while I am pumping gas. It certainly is much safer than smoking a cigarette at the gas pump which I have seen a ton of people do. Then next gas pump rule I break is sitting in my car while pumping gas. I only do this when it is frigidly cold outside. If they didn’t want to me to it they would fix the pump so I couldn’t set it and get back into the car. I would have to stand out there and hold the handle to pump my gas.
When it comes to food there are two rules I break. Nearly every day I eat dinner after 6PM. When you have an active family that cannot be at the table before 6PM how are you supposed to eat sooner? More often than not I am just starting dinner at 6PM. And if I were to say sorry the kitchen is closed because it is after 6PM and there is some silly rule saying you can’t eat this late, I would have a rebellion on my hands that wouldn’t end in a very pleasant way. Maybe back in the day this was feasible but certainly not for the modern family life.
The other food rule I break as often as possible is eating my dessert before my dinner. Why on earth would I leave the best for last? I know in the end I will still eat my brussel sprouts but not before I have had my peanut butter pie. Now this is a hard rule because you then have to explain to your kids do as I say not as I do. They give you the look, shake their heads, and say well why can you do it and I can’t. A simple answer is because I am the mom that’s why.
