No one was more shocked than Rush Limbaugh when he discovered that he had went to High School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with Terry Jones, also known as the Koran burning pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center.
Allahpundit over at Hot Air is reporting that, just as Rush Limbaugh predicted on his radio show, the media is going nuts about the news. Mind, the teenage Rush was just a mischievous kid with aspirations of being a radio DJ, with no hint of the media force of nature that was to come. No one knows what Terry Jones was at the time, except probably another late 1950s teenager, interesting in sports and girls.
It doesn’t matter. The mainstream media has hated Rush for years, partly because of his politics, but mostly because he is so much more successful at the art of communication than they are. When Rush Limbaugh speaks, Presidents and Prime Ministers tremble. When someone like Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews speak, people roll their eyes.
Mind, President Barack Obama could be one of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s parishioners for decades and a good friend of the terrorist Bill Ayers, but none of that matters. Being the acolyte of a hate mongering preacher on the one hand and a friend of a mad, terrorist bomber on the other has no bearing on President Obama’s life or philosophy.
No, all that matters is that Rush Limbaugh went to school with a boy who decades later would steal fifteen minutes of fame when, as the pastor of a microchurch with a fifty member congregation, he threatened to burn the Koran, the holy book of over a billion Muslims.
One can just imagine the conversation on the playground after the intramural baseball game. “Look, Terry, after I become master of all media and you become a man of the cloth, you need to do something outrageous to get attention, I don’t know what that is yet, but it really needs to be spectacular.”
“Maybe I should threaten to burn a copy of the Communist Manifesto?”
“Hmm, interesting idea. Maybe we should work on that some.”
Mind, there were in excess of five hundred people in my own graduating High School class and I can remember only a handful and an in touch with fewer yet. I would not be surprised if one day I heard somebody I passed by in the halls of Madison Sr. High discovered a cure for AIDS or went up to a top of a building with a rifle. But I say in advance that I cannot be held responsible for either act.
