It was one of those days that was nothing but rush, rush, rush. Having not had the foresight that day to defrost something for dinner and not having enough time to prepare a homemade, elaborate meal, I was forced to do a mad dash into the grocery store to pick up something for dinner for my husband and myself. One of the first items I spotted in the frozen food aisle was Safeway Select Sesame Chicken Gourmet Skillet Meal. I was looking for quick, easy and also tasty and this frozen dinner seemed to fit the bill.
Safeway Select Sesame Chicken Gourmet Skillet Meal is packaged in a very striking way. Essentially black and white, the middle front of the freezer bag pictures a very delicious looking meal of chicken and vegetables in a tantalizing sauce. Printed on the side of the picture, there is a white circle that boasts that this frozen dinner contains three servings. Since it was only going to be my husband and myself at the dinner table that night, I estimated that this frozen meal would be perfect for the two of us.
Preparing Safeway Select Sesame Chicken Gourmet Skillet meal could not be easier or more convenient. After pouring the entire contents of the bag into a non stick skillet, the pan gets covered and allowed to cook for about ten minutes so that the sauce begins to simmer and gets evenly coated over the chicken and vegetables. A few quick stirs during the ten minute cooking process and that’s it. After ten minutes, the chicken was thoroughly cooked, the vegetables were softened but not overcooked and the sauce was hot and bubbly. I could not remember a time before when dinner was that simple to prepare and essentially cooked itself.
Safeway Select Sesame Chicken Gourmet Skillet Meal contains plump pieces of juicy chicken breast, broccoli, red peppers and onions. The sauce is a delicious blend of soy sauce, brown sugar and vinegar. There is a nice ratio of chicken, vegetables and sauce contained in the package. I hate when a frozen dinner is plentiful in the vegetable department, but skimpy on the meat and sauce.
One eight ounce serving of Safeway Select Sesame Chicken Gourmet Skillet Meal contains two hundred and fifty calories with nine grams of Fat. There is thirty five milligrams of Cholesterol and five hundred and ten milligrams of Sodium, which represents twenty one percent of the daily recommended intake. There is two grams of Dietary Fiber and a healthy fourteen grams of Protein. There is also thirty five percent of Vitamin A, two percent of Calcium, sixty percent of Vitamin C and four percent of Iron. Nutrition wise, this frozen dinner definitely has it’s pluses and minuses.
Overall, I would give this product four out of five stars. The low price of $3.99, simplicity of preparation and terrific taste definitely made this frozen dinner a worthwhile purchase. The only negative to this frozen meal is that I would not consider it to be three adult size servings. Although the chicken and vegetables are equally matched in quantity, the total content is more equal to two dinner servings. I will definitely be purchasing this product again.
