If you have been looking for a product that will give you lips as desirable as Angelina Jolie, I’m sure you’re interest has been peaked by all the lip inflation products available. After coming across an advertisement in one of my favorite magazines I came across Sally Hanson’s line of lip plumper’s. The one that caught my eye was the Lip Inflation Extreme. I quickly drove to my local drug store to find one.
Once I made it to the Hansen section of the vast brands of makeup, I found myself to be a bit confused. There are two versions to choose from. All I really noticed was the price difference and the word ‘Extreme’ written on one of the packages. Of course in my desire to have fantastic lips, I chose the more expensive ‘Extreme’ version although I could not find a significant difference between the two products at that time. The only thing I did notice was a nicer box and one was labeled “with peppermint oil” while the other boasted a Hydro-Collagen Complex.
After opening my package and painting on my gloss (yes painted, it comes with a paintbrush type applicator), I watched with excitement in the mirror for any sign that my lips were growing full. Before I could even enjoy any plumping, I started to feel the sting of what felt like a thousand bees. At this point I began to get nervous and instantly recognized the scent of cinnamon which does not agree with me. After repeating the mind over matter mantra to myself for a few moments and after wiping away a few tears that somehow had formed, I took another look in the mirror. Sure enough my lips had plumped up nicely. They had also become quite a bit pink, almost red even; making my almost clear gloss look like it was colored. By this time the painful sting the cinnamon brought had also vanished so I was able to enjoy my temporary fullness.
Before you convince yourself the pain I went through means the product is not worth using, know that I also applied the gloss to my mother’s lips. After I painted just a small dollop on her (afraid to put her through the pain I had just experienced), I stared and waited for her to feel the sting and…nothing. I asked her if she was sure and she again said she felt nothing. So out of doubt, I painted a full thick application of the gloss on to her. Again I waited and again…nothing. My only conclusion was that the pain I felt was due to my sensitivity to cinnamon. So ladies, do not let the sting I mention keep you from trying this product out unless for some reason you are like me and cannot handle too much cinnamon. Out of my very basic experiment, it seems only I experienced any pain. The only other thing you must be aware of is that the effect, although fantastic, is very temporary. My full lips lasted a whole 15 minutes. If you want to keep the effect you must be sure to reapply frequently.
While I have not tried the non-extreme version of the lip inflation product which does not have the Hydro-Collagen Complex in it, I cannot say it is inferior to the Extreme version. Again this ingredient, a nicer box, and a steeper price are the only differences I could spot between the two Hansen products.
Overall I would say that this product does what it claims it will do. It will plump your lips, it will make them pinker, and it will leave your lips with a beautiful shine. Just do not believe the results will last for hours. Just remember another application and your lips will thicken up once more. So, if you are looking for a temporary lip plumper, the Sally Hanson section at your store of choice is where you should find yourself.
