Apparently the old saying of either learning from your history or you shall repeat it does not register with those behind the scene of the old Washington Social scene and is something many refuse to relinquish. I guess this is what they mean when they say that they want their country back.
“Investigative pit bull David Bossie was Bill Clinton’s worst nightmare. He’s back, telling Benjamin Sarlin about his admiration for his old rivals-and how today’s GOP should hogtie the Democrats.” “But Bossie isn’t some retired warrior, reflecting on long-gone glory days on the battlefield. He’s gearing up for a whole new fight. Now president of Citizens United, the group that persuaded the Supreme Court to open the floodgates to special interests spending unlimited cash on elections, Bossie speaks kindly of the Clinton crowd only in comparison with the Obama team-which he sees as a gang of dangerous radicals.” And so today, flanked by a bust of Ronald Reagan decked in a cowboy hat and a portrait of George Washington confidently crossing the Delaware, Bossie readies himself for his new mission-to help advise the resurgent Republicans on how to seize power in November, and use it to tie Obama and congressional Democrats in knots.” “Bossie says he was driven at the time by his belief that Clinton was some kind of socialist sleeper agent.” “Today, Bossie freely admits he was wrong.” “Bossie lost his job in 1998, forced out by House leaders for releasing interviews with a Whitewater witness that were selectively edited to disparage the Clintons.” “Bossie, who denied wrongdoing, shows no signs of bitterness over his fate.” “Newt Gingrich, who reportedly was responsible for the dismissal, now works closely with Bossie to promote Citizen’s United films.” “I think there’s a real concern that when the Republicans take over it’s going to be nothing but various witch hunts to find something to impeach the president for,” one longtime Democratic aide told The Daily Beast, citing Burton as the model.” “As he gears up, he admits to a little Clinton nostalgia.” “If you look back now with the benefit of hindsight, oh how I wish he was president today compared to this guy in there now.” “That guy in there now is truly a radical.” (Sarlin, Benjamin, 9/30/2010, The Daily Beast, Clinton Nemesis Now After Obama, Retrieved from email@example.com).
The Republicans put forth their Pledge to America but just how will they even attempt to do the things that they promise when they will be so tied up in throwing everything they can think of at this president to stop his momentum and this country moving forward. One would think that it would be to their advantage that he tackles the really tough things in order to see what will happen then use that as reason why they should be put back in charge. It’s like on the battlefield when your company is following another. You see what obstacles they encounter and base your strategy on that. Not whether the leader of that company is illegal or a radical but what you can do to better. This seems not the case for these highly educated “warriors of the right”, they would much rather waste America’s time and taxpayer money on finding something to impeach this president on just like the millions of taxpayer dollars that they wasted on trying the same thing with Clinton. I guess the real motto for them is “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”.
If the Republicans win back any portion of congress, they will have a perfect opportunity to convince America that they were right all along and that they are the only ones, not the Democrats, who can lead us out o this vicarious situation. The chance to prove that will be theirs but if they spend all of their time and taxpayer money doing nothing but tying up Washington to demean and destroy this president, then they will show all of us that what the Democrat have been saying about them are true. That the American public means nothing to them except a vehicle into a soft cushy job where they can amass their wealth and interview for their next big money gig. What may have been lost to these Republicans is the fact that David Bossie is not the only one who has learned a lesson from his past wrangling with Clinton, so has the American public. He has admitted that he was wrong before when he thought Clinton was a “socialist sleeper agent” so how can anyone assume that he is right about Obama being a radical unless that is something you have always wanted to believe.
Take a man who has endured all that this president has in his life. Seen as a black child with a white mother and an African father. Living, for a while, in a home with dirt floors and having to try and fit in not only with the white part of the world but with the black part as well. Having to deal with other kids talking about their outings with dad, while not having much a memory of that for himself. Watching his mother get up every day to keep his feet to the fire while dealing with cancer. Watching his grandparents struggle to help raise him and keep him on the straight and narrow. Only to work twice as hard as others to reach the position that he has ascended to. Does anyone believe that this guy would be easily distracted, controlled and corralled by anything that they throw at him? Not a chance. Take a man that has nothing and try and take what he has earned from him. No other fight is greater than that except maybe taking away a child’s sucker while the mother is present.
