The San Diego Chargers will roll into the Houston Texans home field November 7th with a goal of shutting down the Houston Texans through the air and on the ground. The San Diego Chargers could be the best NFL team with a losing record but injuries and labor disputes have taken their toll. Couple this with the fact that head coach Norv Turner has not shown the leadership skills needed to get the San Diego Chargers to the next level.
Houston Texans Offense vs San Diego Chargers Defense
Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub has dropped in production this season but he is still a top five NFL quarterback. One reason for Schaub’s drop in production is the new found running game of the Houston Texans. Arian Foster has been a breath of fresh air for the Houston Texans and Foster has also opened up the short passing game for Schaub and the Texans offense.
The San Diego Chargers defense allows the least amount of yards in the NFL but they still have a tendency to give up the big play at the worst moments. Timing is not the San Diego Chargers defense strong suit. There has been plenty of turmoil on the defensive side of the ball and the elimination of Shawne Merriman could bring the defense together. The San Diego Chargers defense has a slight edge over the Houston Texans offense.
San Diego Chargers Offense vs Houston Texans Defense
Phillip Rivers and his San Diego Chargers have piled up some impressive offensive numbers but they have failed to close out games. The notoriously slow starting Chargers are lacking a solid presence in the running game. Rookie running back Ryan Mathews has been slowed by injuries and has not lived up to the high expectations he was subjected to before the season began.
The Houston Texans defense is easy to beat down the sidelines and they haven’t done very well against the run. The Houston Texans are giving up more than 400 yards a game which leads the NFL and going against two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks in consecutive weeks is not helping their confidence. Last Monday the Texans faced Peyton Manning and the explosive Indianapolis Colts offense with some success but were ultimately overrun by the Colts. The San Diego Chargers offense has a huge edge over the Houston Texans defense.
San Diego Chargers vs Houston Texans -2: Pick Against the Spread & Final Look
The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook has made the home team Houston Texans a two point favorite over the visiting San Diego Chargers. The San Diego Chargers have played poorly on the road and their offensive weapons are banged up but this may not have an effect on the outcome of this game. Rivers is great at hanging in the pocket and finding an open man.
Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans will need to establish the running game early against the San Diego Chargers to establish the possibility of the play action pass. Arian Foster and the running game will be hard pressed to break through against the Chargers run defense which is the best in the NFL. Take the San Diego Chargers +2 over the Houston Texans and they will win straight up.
