The San Francisco 49ers travel to the desert of Arizona to face the Arizona Cardinals in a key NFC West battle on Monday Night Football November 29th. The game could be the the San Francisco 49ers last chance to salvage a disappointing season and the Arizona Cardinals could make one last ditch effort to make a comeback.
Both the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers are coming off of embarrassing performances. The San Francisco 49ers were smashed on their home field by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Arizona Cardinals were destroyed by the Kansas CIty Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium.
San Francisco 49ers Defense vs Arizona Cardinals Offense
Defensively the San Francisco 49ers have been a solid unit. They are keeping their opponents to 100 yards rushing per game and they are also holding opposing offenses to 230 yards passing through the air. The driving force of this San Francisco 49ers offense is Patrick Willis. Willis is the most productive defensive player on the field and the opposing quarterbacks must know where he is at all times.
The Arizona Cardinals offense has dropped in production seriously since the departure of Kurt Warner. Larry Fitzgerald remains the number one wide receiver on the team but with no consistency at the quarterback position, Fitzgerald’s talents are wasted.
The departure of Anquan Boldin is also a major hole in this offense. The Arizona Cardinals are passing for only 180 yards per game and their rushing offense is just as poor. They are running for just over 80 yards per game. The San Francisco 49ers defense has the edge over the Arizona Cardinals offense.
San Francisco 49ers Offense vs Arizona Cardinals Defense
The San Francisco 49ers offense has been stagnant for much of the season but with Troy Smith under center they have performed at a better clip. The star of this offense is Frank Gore but his season has been less than stellar.
Gore has been averaging less than 100 yards per game this year and the issues can be traced back to a weak offensive line. Smith replaced Alex Smith this season after he was injured and David Carr failed to provide the spark off the bench.
The Arizona Cardinals defense is two years removed from their best season and a Super Bowl appearance. Now the defense is giving up over 130 yards per game on the ground and over 265 yards through the air per game. The loss of Karlos Dansby has removed the heart and soul from the Arizona Cardinals defense and Joey Porter is not capable of living up to the task of motivating this defense. The San Francisco 49ers offense has a slight edge over the Arizona Cardinals offense.
