Interviews with Sandra Bullock always seem to be effortless and open. But, open or no, there was definitely a 200-plus-pound Vanilla Gorilla in the room when Matt Lauer interviewed “The Blind Side” actress on NBC’s “Today Show.” Jesse James’ name went noticeably unmentioned in the 8-minute session, Sandra Bullock’s first since the mistress scandal took everyone — Bullock included — by surprise back in March. Jesse James’ much publicized mistress scandal went unmentioned as well.
So what did Matt Lauer and Sandra Bullock talk about? For the most part, they talked about adopted son, Louis. Bullock told the “Today Show” about her love for New Orleans, where little Louis Bardot Bullock was born and where she will raise him. Bullock recently purchased a home in New Orleans. Since settling in, she has become engaged in various charity and community projects.
Oddly enough, the unmentioned Jesse James, her now ex-husband, recently purchased a house in her hometown of Austin, Texas, where Bullock still maintains a home.
Referring to Louis as her “little Cajun cookie” and her “crown prince,” the 46-year-old Bullock told the “Today Show” that she didn’t believe she’d been given preferential treatment because of her star status. She said she didn’t “circumvent the process.” She added, “I wanted to do everything exactly the same way everyone else did. It was nice to have someone say, ‘I think you are a fit parent.””
Visibly proud of her adopted son, she excitedly told Lauer about how lively her son was, how he loved to “dance and celebrate.” She acknowledged that she “got lucky,” being paired with Louis, because “he’s extraordinary.”
Bullock said that she wanted to tell everyone about her child, “the most beautiful man I know,” even going so far as to gush about his “poop schedule.”
The Oscar-winner said that since the adoption, which occurred just after she won the Best Actress Academy Award and her husband’s several alleged mistresses were outed, everything was different. “No one understands,” she said, “the shifting priorities of having a child in your life unless you have a child of your own. It naturally shifts … he showed up and now, Louie’s got the stage.”
She said that her top priorities now were her son and her charity work in New Orleans.
Sandra Bullock signed divorce papers with Jesse James in June. The couple had no children of their own, although Jesse James had children from previous relationships. The divorce culminated a series of events that began when, just days after she had reached the pinnacle of her profession, winning an Academy Award, news erupted that her husband had been cheating on her while she made the film for which she won (“The Blind Side”).
But the biggest shocker from the public’s viewpoint may have come when Bullock adopted little Louis Bardot, adopting him and bringing him home secretly in the midst of the media frenzy over her many wins during awards season and the run-up to the Oscars, then being able to keep the secret after she won the Oscar and Jesse James’ mistress scandal became headline news. And in a city known for being unable to keep a secret, Sandra Bullock’s adoption of Louis Bardot is in itself worthy of mention — even if her ex-husband is not.
