The reigning beautiful couple of Hollywood has been Angeline Jolie and Brad Pitt for awhile now. So long have they reigned that some people may have forgotten that there are other beautiful people still out there equally capable of carrying the banner.
Enter Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds. Since Johansson has been named GQ‘s “Babe of the Year” and hubby Reynolds is People Magazine‘s “Sexiest Man Alive,” what a better pair to take over the reigns.
Johansson and Reynolds: Hollywood’s Newest and Sexiest Golden Couple
Reynolds, 34, who’s new movie, “The Green Lantern” is due out next year, is all fresh-faced good looks and charm in light-hearted movies such as “Definitely, Maybe” and “The Proposal.” Though he has taken on tougher roles in movies like “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
Johansson, who married Reynolds in September 2008, has already had a long, distinguished career beginning with her role in the Robert Redford movie “The Horse Whisperer.” Though it was her seventh film, she received an “introducing” credit. She has been nominated for three Golden Globes for “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” “Lost in Translation” and “Match Point.”
GQ explains their choice this way: “At 26, she remains fresh-faced, curious, trying on new moods and outlets of expression as easily as she changes her hair color. This is what we love about Scarlett: that she’s game, that she’s good, that she can try on all these guises without seeming to try too hard.”
And People Magazine explains their pick: “He’s married to the awesome Scarlett Johansson and his star is poised to rocket into the stratosphere when he appears on screen as the Green Lantern next year.”
Short Overview of Hollywood Golden Couples
Hollywood golden couples are not new. There have been other celebrated celebrity couples over the passing decades that have weathered the test of time.
Consider, if you will, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Though she was only 19 and he was 45 when they met on the set of “To Have and Have Not”(1944), they fell in love and were together until his passing in 1957.
Though they were both in the 1968 film, “The One and Only, Original Family Band,” it wasn’t until 1983 that Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell hooked up. Nearly 30 years, one son and two merged families later, they appear to still be going strong.
And finally there is the classic golden couple and love story of screen legend Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, married for over 50 years. Interestingly enough, Newman passed the day before Johansson and Reynolds were married in 2008.
Are there other Hollywood golden couples that you like? What do you think keeps these relationships going strong? Well, whatever it is, here’s to Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds keeping it gold for another 50+ years.
