Basically, there are four types of scholarships that can be granted to students. The first type of scholarship is only given to students that achieve maximum performances and have only the best results at any area of study that they attend. The second type of scholarship is granted to students that are in the need for economical aid to support themselves. In this case the situation of the student, as well as the economical problems of the family is carefully analyzed and the scholarship is granted only if proven that the student needs the money to continue his or her studies.
The third type of scholarship granted to student is the student-special scholarship. This is granted only to students that are from a different race, a different religion or a different nationality or gender.
The scholarship is only granted to those that are a minority in a university. For instance, there is not going to be a minority scholarship for women in universities where the number of women attending the classes is almost equal to the male number equal or more than the male number students attending classes.
But, there is going to be such a scholarship in universities where the number of female students is a lot smaller than the number of male students. In fact, these scholarships promote integration of gender or different religion, race or nationality into the community.
The last scholarship given to students is most of the times referred to as a fellowship, and it is a career-specific scholarship. This is given to students that need to be a part of their working place in order to perform accurately their job. The best example for this is medical school. These students get a fellowship after graduating and work under supervision for about two years, after this they become real doctors. This can be applied for companies or other similar working places.
