Sea glass is a gorgeous accent that is incredibly easy to use to dress up everyday objects. These beautiful sea glass embellished canisters take some time to create, but the finished product is well worth it. Create a set for use in a kitchen or bathroom space.
For this project, you will need (per canister):
– One clear glass canister with removable lid, rectangle or square shaped
– Paper towels
– Medium or fine grit sandpaper
– Tack cloth or other similar style of soft cloth
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Blue Ocean Breeze
– Sea glass in a variety of blue or blue-green shades (available at craft supply shops or online)
– Epoxy glue
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
To protect your crafting area from glues and paints used in this project, simply cover the space with newspaper sheets and/or a large drop cloth prior to starting. Remove the lid from the rectangle or square shaped clear glass canister. Wash both the canister and the lid with hot soapy water. Rinse well and dry both using paper towels. Turn the canister upside down. Allow the canister and lid to dry overnight.
Gently sand the outside of the glass canister and matching lid using medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust using a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth. Spray the outside of the canister and the outside of the lid using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Allow the primer to dry for about an hour. Paint the canister and lid using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Blue Ocean Breeze. Wait an hour, apply a second coat of paint, and dry overnight.
Set the canister lid aside. In pencil, carefully mark on the outside of the canister where you wish to place the sea glass. Apply a good amount of epoxy glue to the back of one piece of sea glass. Adhere the sea glass to the outside of the painted canister. Continue to add pieces of sea glass in a desired pattern around the outside of the canisters. When completed, let the epoxy glue on the canister set for a day or so to cure. Replace the lid onto the canister and enjoy your new creation!
TIP: As gorgeous as these canisters are when complete, they are hand wash only.
