Mike Singletary and his San Francisco 49ers are done for the 2010 NFL season and the optimism that was rampant in the preseason has now been replaced by frustration. The San Francisco 49ers lack of a quarterback was the main reason they could not win games early in the NFL season.
Seattle Seahawks Defense vs San Francisco 49ers Offense
The Seattle Seahawks have the second worst pass defense in the NFL but it may not come into play in this game. Troy Smith has not lit the world on fire as the San Francisco 49ers quarterback and with the loss of Frank Gore the offense sputtered in their game against the Green Bay Packers on the road.
Vernon Davis may make the difference in this game. Look for short passes over the middle and when Davis rumbles down the field after the catch the Seattle Seahawks defenders will not be able to wrap him up.
Defense against the pass is the number one weakness of this Seattle Seahawks defense. they are giving up almost 300 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks but this isn’t their defenses only problem. They are yielding 120 yards per game on the ground also. Pete Carroll has failed to address critical defensive issues in the secondary and it will haunt them as the season closes out. The San Francisco 49ers offense has the edge over the Seattle Seahawks defense.
San Francisco 49ers Defense vs Seattle Seahawks Offense
The San Francisco 49ers defense has been good all season long and their run defense has been better than average. They are holding opposing running backs below 100 yards per game and in this home game they will face Marshawn Lynch. Against the pass the San Francisco 49ers have been solid also. They are only allowing the opposing quarterbacks 216 yards passing and they have been solid on the corners all season long.
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is coming of a big day against the Carolina Panthers defense and he may be a little worse for wear after that game. Matt Hasselbeck is not the top ten quarterback he once was and he is averaging just over 220 yards per game in the passing department. Mike Williams is the only wide receiver worth discussing on this team and he has been hindered by an injury the last few weeks.
