Given that she plays a wizard in the Disney series, Wizards of Waverly Place, it was only logical that the on-line game Wizard101 (www.wizard101.com) would be the perfect place for Selena Gomez to promote her latest CD, A Year without Rain. In the popular on-line game, Selena plays a princess in distress who is in need of rescue by gamers. Along with Selena, title track from her latest album appears in the quest. So how do you make such a winning combination better? Easy, here are five things Wizard101 can do to improve the quest with Selena Gomez.
Dancing with Selena in Crab Alley
Sure it’s fun to dance with an animated Selena in Crab Alley, but this feature comes with limitations. Once the quest is over, you need a second character and a second quest to get to dance with Selena again. Why not allow gamers to dance with Selena any time they want once the quest is over? After all, too much Selena is not a bad thing.
Lengthen the Quest with Selena
For experienced gamers (to include my whole family) the quest with Selena is too short and limiting. Yes, the whole promotion is a good idea, but why not have multiple levels for this quest, each aimed at a different demographic or experience level, this way the quest can be made more challenging for all levels of players. Also, the higher the levels go, the better the game prize can be.
Make Prizes less Limited
Yes, it’s nice that they give out prizes for the quest. A poster and a statue of Selena are cool items to keep in your Wizard101 house, but why be so limited with the prizes? Why not offer one of the dancing crabs as a pet? Or better yet, why not find out what Selena’s favorite animal is and offer it as an exotic looking mount for your wizard?
Selena’s appearance on Wizard101 is innovative, so why not cross promote and offer a cool Wizard101 game card in a deluxe edition of the CD? Wizard101 already makes great use of game cards that are sold in stores like Target or Blockbuster Videos. Each card hidden inside the CD box could unlock a different pet, a cool mount, or a costume. Both Selena and the Wizard101would benefit from this promotional cross over.
Make Selena a Reoccurring Character
At 18, Selena has a long career ahead of her as both an actress and a singer. So why not bring back the cool character already created next time Selena makes a new release? For example, Selena has her own line of clothes (Dream out Loud), so why not have her (the game character) give out special clothing items in the game to promote her new line?
