Shelley Malil was found guilty of attempted premeditated murder yesterday (September 16) in a San Diego County courtroom. Malil, best known for his role as Haziz in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”, was also found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon, but was acquitted of residential burglary, a third charge that had been levied against him.
Malil attacked Kendra Beebe, 37, in her San Marcos home in 2008 after discovering her there with another man. While Malil and Beebe had dated, their relationship was described as “tumultuous” by defense attorney Matthew Roberts.
Malil stabbed Beebe over 20 times in her home but his ex-girlfriend survived the attack.
Beebe told reporters after the hearing, “I feel a sense of relief, but I have to be honest there is never a win in a situation like this. I was afraid because he was an actor that the people might believe his bad theatrics. I am pleased to see the justice system did its job properly.”
Before being acquitted of residential burglary Malil faced up to 21 years in prison if convicted of all three charges; however, he now faces anywhere from 16 years to life.
Malil is being held without bond in the San Diego County Jail and will be held there without bond until his sentencing on November 18.
