Some people collect shot glasses because they often feature unique logos, interesting designs or even funny sayings. Shot glasses which are unusual like that might be put on display but ordinary, clear shot glasses are not all that special. They can be, though, when you use them to make beautiful candle holders and more.
Lay the shot glass upside-down on a piece of cardstock, thick paper or thin cardboard. Draw around it then cut out the circle. Set the disk aside for the moment. Use any number of craft supplies to create an interesting look for the shot glass. One way is to simply fill the shot glass with something. Fill it with various colors of sand to create a sand art effect. Or, fill the glass with loose glitter. Other ideas include beads, shells, foil balls, marbles, foam shapes, tiny bells or even fake flowers.
Instead of filling the shot glass with items you can create a scene by attaching miniatures to the cardboard disk you’ve cut. Glue on a small palm tree, a tiny tepee, a novelty pet, a little stuffed animal or another object. There are literally hundreds – even thousands – of different looks you can create by the types of items you place inside the shot glass.
Decorating the inside of the shot glass can be as simple as cutting a piece of scrapbook paper, a picture from a calendar, or another image. Wrap the paper around the inside of the shot glass and tape it to secure. With scrapbook papers you can instantly create a theme within the glass. When you’re finished creating the look you want glue the disk over the opening.
Choose a “plate” for the glass to make it into a candle holder. Any wooden shape will do. You’ll find small, flat wooden pieces at any craft store. These can be used in their unfinished state or you can paint them. Select from geometric shapes, like circles or squares, or choose a more unique shape, like a puppy.
After painting the shape and allowing it to dry you’ll then quickly assemble the candle holder. To do so, turn the decorated shot glass upside-down, and glue the painted shape onto it. The shot glass candle holders can be elegant, whimsical, colorful or just unusual. They can be made with holiday themes or everyday designs. It’s a fun way to create something new from an otherwise ho-hum shot glass.
