The UK is mourning the loss of a legend this morning. Sir Norman Wisdom has died at the age of 95.
In recent months, Sir Norman Wisdom suffered a series of strokes and was staying in Abbotswood Nursing Home in the Isle of Man to recover. A spokesman for the home said, “Over the past six months Sir Norman has sustained a series of strokes causing a general decline in both his mental and physical health. He had maintained a degree of independence up until a few days ago. However over the last few days his condition rapidly declined. He was in no pain or distress and peacefully passed away.”
Tributes for the comedy legend have been pouring in already. A Facebook page was set up for fans of Sir Norman Wisdom, but it crashed due to the huge rush of people trying to post their thoughts and condolences to the Wisdom family.
Johnny Mans, Sir Norman Wisdom’s agent had many kind words to say. Speaking to Sky News, he said, “He was a friend as well as someone who I have worked with over the years. He was never, ever big headed – he was always a man of the people.”
Sir Norman Wisdom was most famous for his slapstick comedy, and he starred in many, many movies and television shows mainly in the 1960s and 1970s. His most famous catchphrase was, “Ooh, Mr Grimsdale!” and became something of a trademark for him.
Details of Sir Norman Wisdom’s funeral are to be announced soon.
