Sneak Peek Review of Children’s DVD Thomas & Friends: Misty Island Rescue

by bogbit

This is a sneak peek review of the children’s DVD of the animated movie Thomas & Friends: Misty Island Rescue. This product comes from Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment and sees the tank engine and much of his gang leave the friendly confines of Sodor. I was provided a copy of this product for review, but was under no obligation to recommend Thomas & Friends: Misty Island Rescue. My observations are my own.

Synopsis of the New Release Children’s DVD Thomas & Friends: Misty Island Rescue

On the Island of Sodor, a new search and rescue center is being built, but the needed supply of a special kind of very strong wood (Jobi) is lost after Diesel loses three flatbeds of it due to a gap in a bridge. Thomas rescues Diesel, and is awarded a trip to the mainland by Sir Topham Hatt. But the tank engine becomes full of himself over his decision-making abilities, impatiently insisting on riding on a raft against advice not to. When the raft becomes separated from a steamboat on the seas, Thomas drifts to the mysterious Misty Island (which the engines only know through speculation), where he meets Bash, Dash, and Ferdinand. They’re well-worn engines who love to sluff off and giggle a lot while complaining about their lack of oil. Thomas strives to find a way off the island even while Sir Topham Hatt and Thomas’ friends launch a full scale search and rescue effort. In the end, Thomas learns the hard way that he doesn’t know everything and that other’s thoughts about matters are important to hear out. And the Island of Sodor reveals one of its lesser known aspects while Misty Island comes to the rescue in a surprising way.

I strongly recommend this DVD. Over the course of about an hour (58 minutes), Thomas & Friends fans will get a great treat of a nicely-paced story during the animated movie just like the shorter animated spots of less than 10 minutes we’ve become accustomed to. The graphics of Misty Island Rescue are really top rate, especially of the scenes from Misty Island. And some of the orchestrated music in this animated film sounds just like the kind I’ve heard in action movies.
