This is a sneak peek review of the children’s Christmas DVD Jolly Holiday, which stars the animated characters of Barney, Bob the Builder, Thomas & Friends, and others. This product is due out on October 12, and comes from Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment. I was provided a review copy of this children’s Christmas DVD by Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment, but was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.
Synopsis of the Children’s Christmas DVD Jolly Holiday, Which Features Barney, Bob the Builder, and Thomas & Friends
Four holiday-themed episodes make up this product. In “Thomas’ Tricky Tree,” the tank engine has trouble keeping track of his big Christmas tree delivery and his anxiousness leads to some mayhem on the Island of Sodor. In “Bob’s White Christmas,” Bob the Builder and his gang of machinery are kept busy on Christmas Eve, dealing with the effects of falling snow. A large blow up Santa creates havoc a week before Christmas in “Santa Overboard,” which sees Fireman Sam and his fire rescue team answer two calls that are related to one little boy’s holiday demands. Barney, BJ, Baby Bop and the children sing and dance about how cold it is in the park, but then go inside to wait for snow to fall in “Winter.” They keep occupied inside the caboose with activities like making snowflakes. The bonus feature in this children’s Christmas DVD comes from Angelina Ballerina, but it detracts from the holidays. In “Angelina’s Spring Fling,” the mouse and her fellow artistic schoolmates try to deal with the wintertime blues by doing Spring-themed activities inside Angelina’s house, like play pretend baseball and make Easter Eggs.
This particular product not only brings out the Christmas spirit, but does give kids ideas on how to occupy their time during wintertime either indoors or out when they complaining that there’s nothing to do, so I recommend this video. The running time for this children’s Christmas DVD is about 45 minutes (not including the 15-plus minute bonus feature). Jolly Holiday is due for release to retail outlets like Amazon.com on October 12, and has a Suggested Retail Price of $14.98.
