Sons of Anarchy Season 4 is months away. When Sons of Anarchy Season 4 premieres next fall, it may not have the forward momentum that Season 3 had going in. This recently concluded year provided some speed bumps in the road, after the show’s breakout success in 2009. However, although the show still garnered record ratings for FX, a few of them believed that things had gotten sidetracked, thanks to the IRA and Abel. But in Season 4, Sons of Anarchy will be counted on to get back on track, as SAMCRO returns to a brave new Charming.
Warning: Spoilers follow
The divisive Season 3 came to an end last night, as Jax and SAMCRO somehow found a way to avoid being destroyed. Despite a jail sentence forthcoming, it could have been far worse, considering Jax’s shaky alliance with Stahl, and the stakes involved in finishing off Jimmy O.
But as Sons of Anarchy Season 4 approaches, Jax, the club and their families are all united again, and the year’s biggest threats have been taken care off. Old scores were finally settled, and Jax finally broke away from his father’s shadow. However, thanks to a big discovery from Tara, the past of John Teller is far from being buried for good.
That smoking gun is bound to be fired eventually, yet it stands to be a different ballgame even before then. Despite the club’s recent victories, and big forthcoming business, they will return from jail to find a brand new Charming.
The biggest changes for Sons of Anarchy Season 4 is new management in Charming, with Jacob Hale destined to become the Mayor at last. What’s more, the county is taking over law enforcement, and Hale’s as-of-yet unknown business associates are set to finally modernize Charming.
In between all the change in Charming and in SAMCRO, Jax and Tara are also changing things with their new baby. Of course, if this one gets abducted as well, the fans might stage an open revolt. If this past year proved anything, it’s that spending 11 weeks on kidnapped babies isn’t a universally popular move.
Due to the divisive plotlines and directions this year, Sons of Anarchy Season 4 will be looked upon as a bounce back year. Perhaps anything they did in Season 3 would have been considered disappointing, after the huge success of Season 2. The show clearly didn’t rest on its laurels, but to many fans, they tried too hard to do things differently.
If change was what viewers were opposed to, then Season 4 might not go down that easy. However, since Sons of Anarchy is back in Charming to stay, it might balance it out – even if the old Charming is about to fade away. But the old club is another matter, although their unity may not be salvaged forever.
The next stage of SAMCRO’s ride is set to begin sometime in late summer 2011 on FX.
