In “South Park” Season 14 Episode 13 “Coon Vs. Coon and Friends,” Mysterion, aka Kenny, wrestles with the implication of the fact that he cannot die. In the meantime, the Coon, aka Eric Cartman, continues to wreak havoc with Cthulhu.
Spoilers follow. Narrative is, for reasons that will become apparent, by Berry Mint Crunch.
Mysterion, very articulate without Kenny’s muffling parka, is desperate to explain to the rest how he has died and come back many times but none else but he can remember. Does that mean that he is one of the “dark ones” like Cthulhu? In any case, dying repeatedly really hurts.
While these discussions are going on, Cartman arrives with a little surprise. He has a new friend, Cthulhu himself, who banishes Mysterion and all the rest to oblivion, which turns out not to be oblivion after all, but the hell world from which Cthulhu arose. Mysterion has a way out. But it really hurts.
In the meantime, Cartman and Cthulhu are having a real grand time wreaking death and destruction, wiping out the Burning Man Festival before going after every Whole Food Mart in the country. Also, Justin Bieber and all of his fans are marked for destruction, which is just as well. Cartman also cultivates a relationship with the media as Cthulhu’s spokesperson. But better not to cross him or he’ll have Cthulhu get all Vlad Putin on you.
In the meantime, Mysterion consults with the Goth Kids, who are being very put out that the reign of darkness and terror by Cthulhu is not what it is cracked up to be. It is boring and disappointing, like Obama all over again. I think they malign the President. He is not boring in the least.
In any case, it seems that the secret to killing Cthulhu is that another immortal can dispatch him just as he can dispatch another immortal. Mysterion sees this as an end to his curse and confronts Cthulhu, begging the dark lord to kill him.
But it seems that there is another who has powers as well. Berry Mint Crunch, aka Bradley, is an actual super hero and not a joke, as we were led to believe. With the berry power and mint power, he drives Cthulhu back to the other world, rescues his friends, throws Cartman into a holding cell with Butters and a pail of his poop, and still has time to give the finger to his fat, Goth sister.
All ends well, except for Mysterion. It seems that Kenny’s inbred parents really should not have gone to that Cthulhu cult meeting all those years ago.
