Normally, when I see a movie in the theater, I’m strictly a popcorn person. Movies and popcorn go together. Nothing else belongs there! That said, however, a Harry Potter movie is special. It may be a movie, but it’s not your ordinary movie. It’s a window into the wizarding world!
For Harry Potter, ordinary popcorn just isn’t enough. Your snacks should be as magical as the movie itself. You should be eating a little piece of the world of wizardry.
Remember Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans? These are magical candy beans (jelly beans) that could be any flavor at all. Sometimes they’re something good, and sometimes they’re absolutely disgusting. You take a chance every time you eat one. It’s like a gamble with flavor. “Alas, earwax,” Dumbledore laments when he braves the beans and loses the gamble. It’s worth the risk, though, because it adds just the right magically unpredictable touch.
Even though these are magical beans made in the wizard world, they have somehow made their way into the muggle world. You can get them at many Borders Bookstores, from amazon.com, and many other venues (both online and brick and mortar) where they sell novelty candy.
I say, eating these during a Harry Potter movie enhances the experience. It brings the magic closer to you. Move over, predictable popcorn. Bring on the unpredictable symphony of random flavors. Magic lives!
Oh, but please – don’t forget to have some water handy. If you draw a loser, you’ll really want water bad. Bring or buy the largest bottle of water you can find. You might also want some soda to wash away bad tastes with, or some strongly-flavored (and nicely acidic) lemonade would be even better.
