Fans of the Harry Potter franchise may want to venture into Stratford-upon-Avon and check out attractions. Bombay Manor, the home for the eccentric Bombay Family for some daytime family fun for adults and children aged six and older. According to centuries old lore, the cursed Bombay family’s presence can still be felt in this haunted house.
Upon stepping inside this historic home, one finds the Magical Gift shop, a store that sells books, candles and sweets including Fizzing Whizzbangs, hand decorated Chocolate Frogs and Sherbert Fountains. At the nearby Wande Shoppe, one can purchase magic wands, warrants and scrolls. The Owl Post Office provides the perfect place to pen and send a letter that’s written on old-fashioned paper. A Victorian Apothecary sells over 350 different herbs and oils encased in antique bottles and jars with trained sales staff ready to help visitors craft the perfect potion for their particular needs.
In the great hall, one can re-enact a Harry Potter style “sorting ceremony” or try to decipher the potion puzzle located in the Chapter room. In these halls, one can also find holographic framed portraits of the deceased Bombay family members with details of how each one of them died in an untimely manner.
An exhibit on the second floor of the house provides a glimpse into this eccentric family’s private lives. Then on the third floor, toys dating back to the 19th century can be found in the Haunted Nursery.
Then at the rear of the building, one can relax in the quaint Victoria Tea Garden where the Taming of the Brew shop will sell a number of unusual teas along with organic fruit juices, hot chocolate, coffee and tea snacks.
Also, parents can book a child’s magic party at Bombay Manor. These two-hour events take place from5:30pm – 7:30pm. The £15 ticket per child includes an invitation, goody bag, a party supper, birthday cake, magical lessons and other entertainment
Every day, children 12 and over can purchase a ticket for £7.50 and listen to Terrifying Tales ghost stories 6:30pm & 7:30pm. Then at 9pm every night, the manor transforms into the Stratford Ripper Experience, a haunting house experience that’s geared for adults. This walk costs £7.50. Other activities include a Victorian Séances (£25) that happen every Friday night and Seven Degrees of Evil Ghost Hunt (£45) that happen Saturday from 9:30pm – 4:30am. All events are subject to availability and reservations are required.
