Springtime is a lovely time for a wedding in Western Washington. New crisp green leaves of deciduous trees are unfolding next to the lush evergreens, accentuated by the bright colors of tulips, rhododendrons, daffodils and other springtime flowers. But in this region, the possibility of rain showers is also a possibility, even likely. Keeping that in mind, the best venues are those that incorporate the beautiful coastal scenery with the comfort of indoor ceremonies and receptions.
There are three locations where I have witnessed lovely springtime weddings in this region, and I can highly recommend all of them: St. Paul’s Church and the Hood Canal Vista Pavilion, Port Gamble, Washington; The Resort at Port Ludlow in Port Ludlow, Washington; and The Chapel at Fort Worden State Park, Port Townsend, Washington.
St. Paul’s Church and Hood Canal Vista Pavilion
St. Paul’s Church and the Hood Canal Vista Pavilion are located in historic Port Gamble, on the east shore of Hood Canal. It is a quaint village, perfect setting for a wedding. The church is a traditional church with a towering steeple, sitting high above Port Gamble Bay. The Pavilion is perfect for receptions or a more casual wedding. It’s just two blocks from the church, perched on the northern bluff of town, with a vast display of windows for viewing Hood Canal and Admiralty Inlet beyond.
Reservations are taken on a first come, first serve basis. Weddings are schedule year around at this popular location, so it is important to make reservations early. A fifty percent non-refundable deposit is required to schedule the wedding date, plus a $400 refundable security deposit. St. Paul’s Church seats 150 people in the sanctuary, 100 at the church terrace tables next door. The Pavilion seats 150 people in the reception hall and 175 under the adjacent patio tent.
Vendor services for the wedding and reception are readily available. A list of recommended vendors can be found here on their website.

The Resort at Port Ludlow
The Resort at Port Ludlow is located on Ludlow Bay in Port Ludlow, Washington. It offers an intimate, luxurious setting for the perfect wedding. Inside ceremonies offer breathtaking mountain and bay views in either the Sun Room or the Marina Room. If the weather is clear, outside wedding venues can be held on waterfront lawns. A superb chef and service staff can provide memorable rehearsal dinners. The catered receptions are exceptional. All the staff members at The Resort at Port Ludlow strive to make every event elegant and memorable; they especially take pride in their wedding venues.

The Chapel at Fort Worden
The Chapel is completely remodeled, yet provides a traditional setting for weddings. Tucked near the entrance of the Park, it sits next to the Rhododendron Gardens and across from the expansive parade ground. Photo opportunities abound on the Fort’s bluffs, overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The movie, “An Officer and a Gentleman” was filmed at Fort Worden, adding to the sense of romance.
Many events are scheduled at this location, and early reservations are needed to secure this historic building. The wedding reception may be held in the same building or at a number of other locations at Fort Worden.
A wedding at Fort Worden can be an all inclusive event, with catering services offered for the wedding rehearsal dinner and wedding reception. On-sight historic housing is also available for the entire wedding party and out-of-town wedding guests.
Rates for The Chapel range between $150 to $275 per day (subject to change). For more information, to schedule a viewing or to make reservations call: 360-344-4400 or go to Fort Worden State Park Website.
