This StarCraft 2 unit guide will cover the Terran Planetary Fortress building. The Planetary Fortress is an upgraded version of the Terran Command Center, new in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty that gives the Terran player the option of adding combat ability to a Terran players base of operations. The Planetary Fortress carries additional armor and a pair of Ibiks cannons that have a strong area of effect attack. This building losses the ability to take off and change locations due to the added weight of the armor and guns, and does not possess special abilities as the Orbital Command Center does, but the strong turret sitting on top of 1500 hit points and potential max armor of 5 makes this the strongest base defense building in the game, with the added bonus of producing SCVs and collecting resources.
Unlocking the Planetary Fortress in the Wings of Liberty campaign requires using 10 Zerg research in the Hyperion laboratory, and denies the opportunity to use perdition turrets. The Planetary Fortress is a great option for expansion bases, as it helps ward off any harassing units that may come to disrupt resourcing abilities.
