In “Stargate Universe” Season 1 Episode 6 “Trial and Error,” Colonel Young, on one of those out-of-body jaunts to Earth, discovers that his wife wants a divorce. One supposes that it is hard for someone to stay married to Young even when he is around.
This is but the beginning of Young’s problems. He starts seeing visions that always begin and end the same way. They begin with Young being summoned to the control interface room by Brody because they have been jumped by the alien fleet. It always ends with the Destiny being blown up.
In each vision, Young tries different things. He tries to fight it out. He tries raising shields and riding out the attack until the FTL drive cuts on. He even tries giving them Chloe. Nothing works.
Meanwhile, Chloe is feeling grumpy in quarantine. Even though Scott is free of the infestation, it is beginning to change her physiology in alarming ways. Rush is not helping by insisting she still go over ancient equations.
Greer brings over Ginn, a lovely red-haired lady from the Lucian prisoners, to help Eli with some of his work. Things go off far better than Eli would have a right to expect. Ginn is not only helpful in solving some of the problems that have stymied Eli, she seems to like slightly dumpy, nerdy geniuses with mommy problems. Chloe’s loss, her gain, as they smooch.
It turns out that Young’s visions are battle simulations that are being pumped into his brain, with an analysis of Young’s reaction to the same. Destiny drops out of FTL with no gate in range and starts to drift, It is assumed that this time is the real deal and aliens are drawing nigh to wreak havoc. Chloe may have inadvertently sent a signal as to their whereabouts
Young feels that the ship is telling him that he is no longer fit for command. However, this does not seem to be the case, as when he cleans himself up and goes to the interface control room, the ships goes back into FTL and proceeds on its journey. Rush has managed to override the simulation from his secret control room.
The ship, in the form of a vision from Jeremy, warns Rush that there may be another threat ahead. Of course there is. They are aboard an alien starship flying in an unknown part of the universe. There is always a threat ahead.
