The Steelers vs Patriots score was a dramatic reversal for New England. In fact, the Steelers vs Patriots score was nearly as lopsided for New England as last week’s loss to Cleveland was. Although their 39-26 win was closer than their 34-14 loss to the Browns, they were in complete control nonetheless. After last week, it appears that New England was overrated and the beneficiaries of a somewhat soft schedule. But after this game’s outcome, they are being placed among the elite again.
All the momentum seemed to be with Pittsburgh before the game, as they were hosting a team that came off a rotten loss. In addition, the Steelers could take sole possession of the AFC North lead, after the Ravens lost earlier in the week.
Instead, the Steelers vs Patriots score was largely lopsided in New England’s favor. The first game this week between two 6-2 teams went to the wire in Atlanta. But the only thing this game had in common with the Ravens vs Falcons was that an AFC North team lost.
Tom Brady dominated from the start, getting a quick touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski to start things off. He would throw two more to the tight end during the night, as Pittsburgh never led, and could barely stop Brady.
By the end of the third quarter, the score was as large as 23-3 for New England. Perhaps it wasn’t a shock that the Patriots were winning, but to do it by that extent in Pittsburgh, after last week’s mess, raised a lot of eyebrows.
Yesterday was yet another day when the NFL’s supposed powerhouses struggled. With the Jets needing overtime to beat Cleveland, and the Giants going down to the Cowboys, the Patriots looked like the league’s best once again. At the least, they are tied for the NFL’s best record again, and kept pace with the Jets for the AFC East lead.
As for Pittsburgh, this game showed a lost opportunity for them. They could have gotten ahead of the Ravens in the AFC North, but they remain tied with Baltimore at 6-3. Pittsburgh was 3-1 without Ben Roethlisberger, yet now they are only 3-2 with him.
Although Pittsburgh gets to face Oakland next, that no longer looks like an easy win these days. Meanwhile, New England gets to make another huge statement next week, as Peyton Manning and the Colts come to Foxboro for their annual showdown.
