Sure, you can take the easy way out and print images from the internet onto adhesive sticker paper. There are tons of designs you can do by snatching pictures online. But, unless the child is allowed to play with your computer this technique is not that much fun for him or her. You know what is fun? Having a sticker designing party for kids! You can’t believe how creative kids can get with stickers until you see them in action!
Purchase sticker paper at a craft store and set some out on a table for the party. If you want, precut the paper into sticker sizes. These can be squares, rectangles, circles, ovals or even stars. An assortment of different shapes is a nice way to get the kids started on designing the perfect stickers.
A handy object at a sticker party is a hole punch. Old-fashioned hole punches used to only make holes but now they make nearly any shape. If you do a lot of scrapbook crafts you might already have hole punches in shapes of stars, hearts, animals and others. These can help the kids create smaller stickers to put on the larger ones or to make stick-on earrings.
There are many ways to embellish a blank sticker. One is to use a large sticker as the background then cut a shape from another sticker and put it on the large one. You can make stickers with several layers using this technique. Another way is to use paint markers. They dispense real paint that is permanent and can be used to make assorted designs. Create dots and stripes or just write on the sticker.
Use small paintbrushes to draw lines or other designs onto a sticker with glue. Sprinkle on glitter or attach other objects, like yarn, fake jewels or even buttons. Or, use the paintbrushes to apply fabric paint – which works on many different surfaces – to the stickers. Spell out your name or draw a simple image.
Lay out all the sticker-decorating supplies and let the kids have at it. You can offer them suggestions or they can just go crazy on their own! Let each child make just one nice sticker or let each kid create a complete collection. A sticker-designing party is a fun way to let kids get creative at a birthday party, sleep-over or other event!
