William was worried. Tomorrow was show and tell. BUT not just any show and tell. His teacher said to bring something special! What could William bring? He needed a super idea.
At rest time, William could not shut his eyes. He imagined what his friends might bring to school tomorrow. He thought and thought.
Danielle might bring Zeus, her pet alligator. Her aunt in Florida sent it to her special delivery. Zeus is still a baby, who eats bugs and raw meat. Sometimes he smells icky. Danielle will say Zeus’ mother lives in her aunt’s backyard. Everyone will say WOW! But, what will William bring?
Zach might bring his favorite baseball cap. He knows all the names of the players on his hometown team and pretends to hit an imaginary baseball everyday. Zach might say anyone who wears his cap can hit a home run. Everyone will say WOW, but what will William bring?
Kelsey might bring her lucky gold coin. A long time ago, her Grandpa caught an old leprechaun. Grandpa made the tricky elf tell him how to find a pot of gold. Kelsey might let each of us touch her shiny coin and make a wish. She will say the magic leprechaun lives in her bath tub. Everyone will say WOW! But what will William bring?
Dante might bring another pair of new shoes. (He has more shoes then anyone I know!)This pair will have springs on the bottom. He could hop around the classroom like a kangaroo. He will tell the class his shoes help him jump, as high as the moon. Everyone will say WOW! But what will William bring?
Taylor might bring her shark teeth collection. She found them on the beach, after a storm. Some are big and some are small. Taylor will let us feel the pointy tips. She will tell the class a shark, with missing teeth, swam close to her and smiled. Everyone will say WOW! But what will William bring?
Danielle might bring a vase filled with colorful flowers. Every spring, her mother plants flowers in their back yard.We will smell the flowers and carefully touch their smooth petals. Danielle will say her flowers can grow as tall as trees. Sometimes she sees a giant hiding in them. Everyone will say WOW! But what will William bring?
William finally fell asleep. He had fantastic dreams about alligators, baseball caps, leprechauns, shoes, sharks and flowers .When he woke up, he was still worried. He thought and thought.
After school, William’s mom and baby sister were waiting for him. He was still thinking about show and tell. He looked at his baby sister and smiled. He whispered in his mother’s ear. She laughed and nodded her head.
The next day everyone brought their special show and tell. Each child set their treasure on a table in the back of the classroom. There was one baseball cap, a small alligator, a gold coin, a pair of shoes, a box of shark teeth, a bouquet of flowers and one baby. William waited for his turn. He was last. He told the class,” This is my baby sister. She drinks milk and cries. One day she will grow up, but I will always be her big brother. AND I will always protect her from the purple creature who sits under her crib”. Everyone said WOW, William is so brave! William knows what he will bring to the next special show and tell. SOMETHING PURPLE!
